The name is kianbung. I’d give out my full name, but if you’re here, chances are you know it already anyway, so I won’t bother.
I was born on the year of the dragon, 1988 - on the 28th of April (I won’t be gay and ask for presents, but monetary gifts are always welcome :P). My original birthplace was Batu Pahat, Johor in Malaysia. However, I lived most of my life in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam. In that sense, I am more or less technically Bruneian by heart. Especially when the Brunei anthem is the only anthem I know.
I am of pure Chinese lineage - however, my skills in written Chinese are highly laughable. My spoken Chinese is decent, at least. While I am proud of my lineage, I am one to shun its tradition and beliefs, oftentimes being the catalyst of minor conflicts of culture with the elder generations of my family. Minor clarification: elder generations = grandparents.
I am a godless person, and for that, I am in firm belief that I should burn in hell. Of course, decomposing six feet under would be a more plausible explanation, but you know how some people like to exaggerate things. Whatever makes them happy. I could actually say that I’m a believer of Haruhiism, but it’s just an internet identity I built up at certain places. Oh wait. This is the internet. Shit.
I believe in dramatic ironies in life - that hatred can grow into deep love, that failure can pave way to great success, that enmity can forge a firm friendship, that impossible odds can turn into favourable situations. Such things - and vice versa. I also believe in talent over hard work. One may call me an elitist, or maybe just a lazy bastard - but I beg to differ. If one is trying too hard in something, perhaps he or she is trying too hard in one field and neglecting or overlooking another that he or she may excel in.
My pet interests lie within videogames, anime, manga, computers and the internet - the nerdy stuff, if you must. That much I won’t deny. After all, I spent most of my highschool life within a rather conservative Chinese environment (one which I now shun). Due to that, I used to belong to only a small circle of friends - one which I value very much up to this very day.
However, with the advent of university life, I have come to realise that while having a small group of loyal friends is nothing short of irreplaceable, it is not nearly sufficient - especially within my field of studies, mass communication. I have begun to expand my social circle, and while I am still a less-than-social person, I am way less anti-social than before.
Given my background as an anime nerd fan, I can be rather eccentric and downright random at certain times. Friends who have been through my ninja and L era can testify. Not as strange as certain characters can be, but still strange enough to be shocking or at least surprising for people around me.
My gamer handle is papaburang, as local (Mirian and Bruneian) cybercafes have witnessed. I play DotA periodically, and while I’m not exceptionally pro at it, I’m good enough to hold my ground. I also have a knack in playing Time Crisis 2, as I have spent countless hours frequenting the arcades in the previous year. Other arcade games I enjoy are Soul Calibur II, Daytona and Initial D: Arcade Stage Version 3. The rest of my gaming time is spent grinding in Japanese RPGs like Final Fantasy and Shadow Hearts (not to be confused with Kingdom Hearts - which I really like as well).
My current field of studies is Mass Communications in Curtin University of Technology, Sarawak. This stemmed from my past aspiration of becoming a journalist for PC Gamer Malaysia, but the past two semesters in Foundation had bred interest in film production within me as well. As of now, I am unable to ascertain what I really want to do, but it doesn’t really matter as the future can be rather unpredictable.
My ultimate goal in life is to pierce the heavens, the earth, and towards tomorrow.
