whoa - version 3 already?!

One picture tells it all. Yep, Xenogears - often revered as one of the best (or sometimes even as the best) JRPGs ever. The narrative tells of a story that dates back 10,000 years (in the Xenogears timeline, of course) - from the dawn of time and the beginnings of the human race on the planet. During the time of its release, Xenogears offers a fresh new perspective (albeit a rather controversial one) in RPG story narrative in terms of its various religious allusions and sometimes ‘blasphemous’ views.
Like any other JRPG that I’ve played - it starts off in a small peaceful place where the protagonist Wong Fei Fong lives happily with the people. Fei (as the game calls him) was brought to the village of Lahan three years prior - heavily wounded and the such. The protagonist suffers from amnesia and does not remember anything prior to life in the village.
But in pure vanilla JRPG fashion - all hell breaks loose one day when Lahan was attacked by enemy Gears. Gears are what they call the giant robots in the Xenogears universe. So yeah - Fei freaks out and unleashes some form of power that wipes out the village (in a typical anime fashion). From there, Fei departs from Lahan in a journey of self discovery and whatnot. Oh, you know - typical story stuff.
I’ve finally finished watching the 25-episode series, Soukyuu no Fafner (or Fafner of the Azure).

My very first impression of this anime would be “WTF EVA?!”. And rightfully so - let me sum up parts of the plot (after the jump) to demonstrate this.
Holy shit. Just look at the trailer below.
Srsly. ’nuff said. While some parts may be pre-rendered, I’d suppose that the parts with the battle menus are actual game engine graphics. Fucking awesome. Looking forward to the game itself. Now if only I have a PS3. Anyone care to buy me a Christmas present?
Since I’m a member of Nuffnang (as you can see from the ad on the sidebar), I naturally felt compelled to join Innit when it came out. After all, what could be more fun than looking at other blogs from Malaysia while promoting your own blog, eh?
After signing up, the first thing I thought was - ‘man, this looks a hell lot like digg…’
And yeah, it did work like Digg, sort of. Only with much less features. But it comes with the blogspam.
What Innit really needs is a bury feature. (among other things like seeing what stuff you ‘nanged’ up in the past) Oftentimes, I see crap like some person’s wordpress upgrade posts (which nobody cares and shouldn’t be submitted to Innit), or some blatant shocker titles just to attract visitors - and worst of all, posts promising riches and crap like that (and ends up being one of those blogs with a 7-mile long sidebar filled with ads).
Man.
Even so, since Innit’s just starting out, I guess I shouldn’t be too harsh on it. After all - they’re probably still optimising and upgrading and adding features and stuff. (here’s for hoping they see this and take my opinion into consideration)
Muahaha.

Okay, I forgot the fact that not everyone uses Digg. ‘Bury’ (as mentioned in the comments), is basically the direct opposite of a ‘nang’ - ie. removing 1 point from the number of nangs. For a live example, check out Digg.
Yep - and whoa, Timothy Tiah replied to the post. Cool.
Was spending yet another unproductive night until I found pure win after clicking through Shaolintiger’s blog. (check out the vid on the linked page as well, it’s fun)
Well, that’s one way to spend the night. Be sure to take a look at MySlump, Al-Jazeera skit, and damn - that flashlight video I just watched minutes ago.
Enjoy.
Epic fail.
Probably according to StupidFilter, my comment above should more or less qualify as a ’stupid’ post or one from a troll. Call me a troll or a skeptic if you want - but I personally think this just isn’t going to work out. While I salute their effort in attempting to weed out the plain idiots from the internet, I highly doubt that a mere algorithm can effectively sort out the idiots from the witty.
One needs to consider context and the current flow of the conversation to actually identify if a comment is ’stupid’ or not. A one word comment which sounds stupid can be full of win in the right circumstances, while a logical take on things (usually in an attempt to sound smarter than one really is) can be the proud recipient of the infamous facepalm in the wrong setting. Can a mere algorithm accurately determine and measure these variables?
Given the fluidity and the randomness of web discussions - I think not.
Well, until a machine can successfully comprehend human nature and react according to circumstance - and might I add ‘learn’ and ‘mature’ from previous experiences, I doubt such an attempt will be very successful.
Of course, by that time - we should be worrying about more pressing issues like SkyNet.
As you can plainly see, the blog is undergoing a complete overhaul - from theme changes to updates for the ‘About’ page and whatnot.
Yeah, it looks ugly now - but not for long. I’ll plop up some stuff later today. I’m tired now.
I’m going to sleep.
Bleh. Proof that I’m bored out of my head:

Yeah, been playing with Ubuntu Linux. The format went smoothly, as did the installation. In fact, the magic software actually allowed me to resize my existing WinXP partition to make space for Ubuntu. Without destroying anything in the process.
I’m happily blogging on Firefox, chatting on Pidgin, and downloading shit on Deluge. Oh, and the pic above? Edited using GIMP (needs getting used to).
But meh. It isn’t all sunshine and rainbows with Ubuntu - for one thing, my mouse’s extra buttons don’t work anymore (I’m sure I can find some way to make it work - but I can’t be arsed at the moment). Oh, and one annoying problem for me - ATI driver support sucks. It doesn’t recognise my Radeon HD2400. Dammit. I guess I’ll just have to wait until someone develops drivers for it.
Otherwise - good OS. If you don’t play games that much (or have a console) - hey, it’s time to switch. Crysis can wait. At least until it drops its annoying ‘next-gen’ status.
Upgraded wordpress to 2.3.1… Not really sure what it does, but hey - high version numbers are nice to look at.
I’m trying to look for a good theme that’ll work with my blog - haven’t found any yet. Contemplated making my own, but couldn’t be arsed. So yeah, we’ll see how it goes.
Xenosaga is getting interesting - it’s at the 13-hour mark now. I’m guessing it’ll go maybe as far as FF7. Who knows.
Yep.
And yeah - Kenny Sia is a man of wise words.
