Aftermath

Let’s see… University students - check. Birthday party - check. Loud music - check. Food - check. Bottle of vodka - check. Insanity - check. We knew we were going to be into a really wild party that night…
So here I am, without any hangover whatsoever, alive and just back from the CV Gathering, in fact. I had limited access to the internet, so I couldn’t report back earlier. The CV Gathering was fun, sort of. It wasnt’ all that bad. We had cute girls running around and dancing and stuff, so it was pretty good. And for RM10, the food was great. I doubt that you can get that amount of quality food anywhere else in Miri for this kind of money.

So, back to my party. It started off like any other party, people came at different times, and we ate. The food was great - Li Fong and Lency cooked, so I didn’t have to do anything (thanks to both of you ^_^) but twiddle my thumbs while waiting for the guests. Only Wei Soon and Scott came though. Still, it was a personal party, so too many people would’ve been rather crowded. Six people were perfect.

We had food, we talked a little, and the two guys you see above, Wei Soon and Scott, raided my computer. Well, not that I really minded… Anyway, after that I started mixing alcoholic drinks for those two. We started off with a shot of Vodka Lime (my own invention - absolutely without any form of measurement whatsoever). We then moved on to this cocktail I whipped up using a can of fruits and my vodka. It wasn’t that bad, but it tasted rather strange.

Then came the crazy part. We my housemates eventually joined in and we had a crazy drinking game. We threw dice, and whoever got a nine would drink a shot, and a seven means half a shot. Li Fong mixed the vodka - first with the cocktail, then with the soft drinks I bought for the party, then finally whatever drinkable fluids we could get our hands on in the kitchen. (Un)Fortunately, I seem to be the one who keep getting nines and sevens, so I ended up piss drunk, and rolling about the floor and mumbling unintelligible phrases.

Warrgh. Me drunk like hell~

And here’s a photo of me when I was drunk and rolling about the floor - courtesy of Lency. Anyway, we soon ran out of liquid substances to mix with the vodka, so we played another game - one that involves baby powder, water, and pasting the concoction on people’s faces. Whoever loses a match would get the white concoction pasted on their faces, and Peng Chong ended up getting facial for free. I’m not sure how beneficial baby powder plus water is to our face though. Shouldn’t be that bad, right?

zomg ghosts!

And here it is - the photo that will make everyone want to kill me. Here’s the photo taken after everyone is finished with the game, drunk or relatively drunk, and ready to go home. Man, I’m gonna have to go into hiding if any one of the people in the photos stumble upon my blog.

Happy B’day…

…to me.

Yep, it’s my birthday today. And the picture is a present from myself to myself. Credits to whoever made this (please don’t sue). Vodka party and everything tonight. Even the TMNut gave me a present, albeit an empty one. We got a call that said that we would be getting a phone line soon, which means Streamyx (broadband) for us. Yay.

Too bad they called us again later and told us he made a mistake. Damn TMNut. Ah well, still, I’m going to have a party tonight, not many invited, but there’ll probably be enough vodka for everyone. Hopefully I won’t be too hung-over to go to the CV Gathering tomorrow.

Lastly, Happy Belated Birthday to Jing Xiang, whose birthday was on 26th this month.

Phone Pecah…

I woke up this morning. Just like any other morning. Only one thing was different - my damn phone alarm didn’t go off. Wait, no - the phone alarm went off, sure as hell. But, it didn’t emit any noises like it usually did. That was evil. I woke up at 7.52am. I’m lucky I did. With a single “WTF?!” and I was rushing to pack my stuff and sprinting to the bus stop. The bus didn’t run away yet, lucky me. Although, I kinda wished I had time to brush my teeth or change my clothes. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why we don’t wear pajamas.

Still, it didn’t solve the mystery of the silent alarm in my handphone. It already happened once yesterday morning, but I had later classes, so it didn’t really screw up anything that much. Plus I dismissed it as my own fault - I thought I forgot to set the alarm the night before… Apparently that wasn’t the case. It wasn’t on silent either.  I tested it just now, and the screen of my phone merely flashes in the event of an alarm, nothing more.

Perhaps it’s the magnetic fields of the Earth being in direct opposite wavelength as my phone alarm’s signals. Perhaps it’s the Flying Spaghetti Monster’s curse on me for stating that pasta sucks. Or maybe it’s one of those crazy alarm clock NINJAS sabotaging my phone. Who knows. This will probably go down in history as yet another unsolved mystery, much like the Bermuda Triangle and the curse of King Tut.

Senadin at Dusk

Heh, I promised ‘Curtin at Dusk’, but unfortunately I wasn’t able to get them. Still, here’s a photo of Senadin at dusk. That’s the area where I live, if you don’t realise it. ^_^

Senadin at Dusk

Enjoy~

Mestilah Ori…

…baru low quality.

I really wanted to buy an original VCD at Speedy yesterday. I really did. It was a Thai action film called Tom-Yum-Goong, starring Tony Jaa - the same guy who was in Ong Bak, another excellent Thai action film. It cost RM16.90 at Speedy, if memory serves. I would have put my cash down on the counter, no questions asked, if I didn’t notice somthing really glaring. The packaging of the VCD was crap. Seriously crap. The colour of the pictures looked like they were printed from an InkJet printer (and I wouldn’t be surprised if it really was), and there were folds and creases on the paper in the casing.

I had second thoughts - I went to Imperial Mall and looked around in the Communist shop (read: pirate) on the top floor. I was glad I did. The pirated version only cost RM5, and they quality of the packaging looked similar to the original version- perhaps just a slight bit worse off. It was an exact 1-to-1 copy of the Malaysian original, so I thought ‘what the hell‘, and bought it. And damn, am I glad I did.

It seems that I haven’t learnt a lesson about Malaysian originals when I thought about buying Tom-Yum-Goong original from a Malaysian shop. And to think almost RM50 of Saiyuki Reloaded would have thought me a very good lesson already. Don’t worry, fool me once - shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me… But that’s it, there is no thrice. Quite frankly, the subtitles by Malaysian companies are CRAP. People wonder why I advocate getting subtitles from the Internet rather than those from commercial companies. If you have watched what I watched last night, you would have nodded your head, no questions asked. Half-heartedness does not describe the subbing quality - I’d say it’s more in league with daylight robbery - plus Government endorsement. More than half the speech wasn’t even subtitled, and that’s assuming that all subtitled speech was anywhere near accurate. Damn, if the Government expects me to pay RM16.90 for such crap, then the Government seriously needs to get their heads out of their behinds.

The Malaysian publishers and distributors are whining about people buying pirated VCDs and getting the Government to pull a Brokeback Mountain on the Malaysian people, when in fact their goods are nowhere near worth buying. I am in no way advocating piracy, mind you. I buy my games original, especially those imported directly from other countries - even if the Government has defiled my game packages by pasting their crappy ‘Ori’ sticker on them, and often on the most annoying places. But damn, if you want to talk about VCDs - those you find in Malaysian shops with the ‘Ori’ sticker on them are a signifier of great quality - great lack of it.

Until the bloodsucking Malaysian publishers and distributors get their act together, I am in no way going to buy an original VCD or DVD movie from them. Heck, I wouldn’t even touch their stuff even if they paid me to do it. I’m sure they would somehow find some way to cheat me of my soul or something. Either that or they’ll try to Brokeback Mountain me. O_o

Overnight?

It’s almost three in the morning. I’m in a girl’s room, and just a moment ago there were two girls on the bed beside me. They were pulling at each others’ clothes and talking about taking off pieces of clothing. That got you interested, didn’t it? Well, actually I’m staying over at Lency’s place with my two housemates - Peng Chong has an assignment due in, say, more or less twelve hours, and he’s been rushing it since seven last night. The other two girls are watching TV downstairs at the moment. They were up here a moment ago, but nothing dirty was going on. I don’t think so, anyway.

As for me, I’m using the laptop here in Lency’s room using an unrestricted internet connection - quite a big change from the crap internet connection on campus. Damn, they even blocked our redirect for Meebo. It’s rather unfair, really - being restricted from contacting our friends. The weird thing is that they didn’t block Friendster, even though it’s more often used for picture whoring than anything else. Personally, I think Friendster devalues the word ‘friend’. ‘Friend’ seems to mean ‘the people I have a link to in my Friendster account’ instead of ‘those whom I care for and trust’. Saddening, really.

Let us not dwell in such depressing themes. Anyway, before having the chance to come up here and capture the laptop, I was downstairs watching Jeeper Creepers 2. Man, that movie sucked. The monster was lame, and there wasn’t much story to boot. Plus it wasn’t scary. I preferred Final Destination - even though it was predictable as hell. How much more predictable can you get if you have ‘kill everyone in the movie‘ as your basic plot?

Oh, as a lame attempt to boost my ego ever so slightly, let me announce that my post was selected as post of the month for PC Gamer forums in PC Gamer Malaysia April! Ha, it’s not a big deal really. I got this game called Paradise Cracked. I have no idea what this game is, it probably isn’t that much of a good game - but heck, it’s a free game and it’s original, so I’m not complaining. (I just checked the reviews at GameSpot - I was right, the game sucks…) It’s just too bad it wasn’t letter of the month instead. A stick of OCZ RAM or a copy of Quake 4 would’ve rocked. Hard.

My post seriously has no sense of continuity here - I’m just typing down whatever that pops to my mind. I went out with Wei Soon yesterday - walked around town and stuff. I got my ass beaten to pulp in Soul Calibur 2 in Parkson’s arcades on the top floor. That kinda sucked. At least I managed to beat someone else to pulp before that. Wei Soon and I also played Time Crisis before that. I think it was Time Crisis 2, but I’m not sure. We got until Stage 3, then we ran out of coins (actually only Wei Soon ran out of coins - I saved some of mine to get my ass beaten to pulp in Soul Calibur).

Oh, and I got Tomb Raider: Legends yesterday too. It rocks. There goes my resolution to finish Shadow Hearts: From the New World… I’ll probably finish it sooner or later, but it’s more likely to be later than not. I myself have got two assignments due this week (on my birthday as well…), and a presentation as a kicker. I’ll find some time to rush it sometime later this week.

I was right - having not taken caffiene since leaving Brunei has greatly boosted its’ effectiveness. I guess I have lost my caffiene tolerance (read: addiction). I used to claim that I have caffiene in my blood - now I guess there’s ethanol in my blood instead. Yes, I guess I haven’t mentioned that I got drunk twice on the second week alone, both ending with me hugging the toilet bowl and puking loads into it. (The first time actually had me puking all over the toilets - but no one needs to know since I cleaned it up albeit being drunk like crap)

I expect to be hugging the toilet bowl again next Friday night. Not even ninjas could prevent me from having my fix of ethanol.

Three Shots of Vodka…

…will definitely knock me out.

I got bored, and after rushing my IVC essay draft I decided to cool off a little by taking a few photographs of my bottle of vodka (courtesy of my dad again - Thanks dad! ^_^) I have stashed in my room. My birthday’s coming soon this month, and I intend to drink myself to oblivion when the time comes.

Mmm... Vodka rocks.Upwards view of the bottle...And here is the obligatory bird-eye view...

And here we have it. Three shots (no pun intended) of my bottle of vodka.

Tension Rising

How many University students does it take to screw in a light bulb?
Answer: Just one, but he waits until the very last moment to cram it all in.

Here we go. Finally reality is starting to crash in for the Media group. Prior to this, we had practically no (read: zero, none, 0) assignments to hand in. I guess things will catch up sooner or later. We have IVC and IT assignments to hand in this Thursday, then moral studies and IMCS for next week. After that, there will be a constant flow of assignments to be handed in. Don’t forget to pile in our group assignments like our magazine project and occasional presentations.

Some people are already flipping from all this. And just as it’s finally starting to get fun. Seriously, we need more optimists nowadays. At least the rest of us are able to handle the stress (for now). No point getting all jumpy when no ninjas are involved, eh? (Obligatory inclusion of the word ninja)

There is more to be said, but it’s almost dusk, and I want a few photos of Curtin at sundown. I’ll upload it some time later on.

The story so far…

It’s past midnight. Everything is silent except the whirring of the computer fans and the clicks of the keyboard as I type this out. Everyone else in my house is asleep - I should be too, but the lack of internet access for the past two months or so has driven me to stay awake and exploit (erm, utilise) the internet connection to its fullest extent, even if it means sacrificing my sleep in the process.

University has been treating me rather well for the past eight weeks. My eyes have opened to an entirely different world from the one I’ve known so far - one far less opressive than high school, and one far more beneficial to my academics. Being in the media stream, it is far more relaxed than the engineering and commerce streams - we have plenty of time for club activities and other personal indulgements.

Judging by my previous stance towards humans, one would never expect me to join the clubs which I have joined. I am now a part of the Curtin Volunteers, the Toastmasters, the Youth and Recreation Club, and the soon-to-be (hopefully) formed Tae Kwan Do Club. So you ask, why would I join the Curtin Volunteers when I was one of the biggest rebels during my time as a Scout? I refused to help in events, refused to participate constructively in the Scout troop, and even went as far as leave the school so that I have the excuse of quitting the Scout troop.

I only have one way of explaining this - the nature of the word volunteer. Back then, we were forced to help out regardless of whether we feel like it. The spirit of aiding others is not there. It made us resent helping people - so much unlike where I stand now. Now, I help because I want to help, not because some person we fear dictates it.

I have no intention of condemning the Scout troop which I belonged to back then, however. I do acknowledge the fact that I have gained much from being in that group - especially good friends which have been around me even after I left the school.

Enough of the past. Let us go on to now. Life is great, I have a great study group, even though there are a particular few I can’t exactly see eye-to-eye with. The tolerance is there though. I’m much more cheerful than before, a little too cheerful at times in fact - I got described as ‘childish’, but I don’t really care as long as I’m happy. It sure beats being downcast the entire day anway. I’m tired of bitching about life here and there.

I’ve recently found great interest in photography - probably because my father bought me a Nikon Coolpix L3 so that I could do some of my media assignments. (Thanks dad ^_^) I’ve been going around snapping photos of anything and everything I got my eyes on, and even went as far as going to an event just to take photos of it. Heck, one of my female groupmates called me a pervert due to my interest in photography. Apparently taking photos of people while they’re eating is a perverted act. O_o

Classes are going well - most of my lecturers are extremely likable, some of them even can be cosidered as friends if they weren’t teaching us. There are lecturers who aren’t as friendly or professional as the others, but heck, I haven’t stepped on their tails yet and I don’t intend to do so.

Finally, about my life outside university. I’m getting along well with my housemates. They’re only a few years my senior, so they’re still in my age group - the gamer group. Oftentimes we spend nights fragging one another in F.E.A.R., or playing co-op in Dawn of War against the computers. I’m currently trying to convert them into anime fans as well, and so far so good. I’ve shared my entire anime folder in my home network, and damn, there sure has been much network activity going on.

And to close this post, I shall mention the word ‘NINJA’ for absolutely no reason whatsoever. (Intentionally included so that my post has the word ‘ninja’ in it :P)

Revival

Here we go again, yet another revival. This time it was due to human error on my part - sleep deprivation playing a big part in the accidental deletion of my previous outlet of angst. And I thought I’ve already learnt not to make decisions while half-asleep. Last time that happened I knocked my PS2 out of commission for more than a month.

Perhaps it is for the best though. It was about time I let go of my previous self filled with angst and cynicism. Being dropped into the university environment had done wonders in treating that. Farewell to the self stuck in limbo between high school and university, and all hail the self in university.

This time round, hopefully the blog will stay up and get constant updates. Gone is the angst that fueled the previous blog - this time around, it will hold the tale of one student whom was dumped into an alien environment, and how he clawed his way through it. Of course, there will be other random things here and there - else this wouldn’t be a blog anymore.

Most importantly, mainly just to piss certain people off - there will be honorable mentions of NINJAS.
